Journal - Bug Meal Menu

Worms & Chocolate

Yummy! Sweet and potent!

plateDutch scientist, Arnold van Huis believes that we could completely overcome global world hunger. Europe should be the second proof after Asian, already proven, recipes from the ritch kitchens.

AMSTERDAM - Arnold van Huis has realized that all those 'bugs' we have around us, all of them could be easily included in our daily menu, in our very near future.

Global food crisis could be resolved if people would start eating worms and the rest of the "juicy" insects. That would also help considering problems with small agricultural areas, just as with drinking water as well. Yep, that's the opinion from the scientist Dutch dude from the University in Wageningen.

He is about to publish cook book with the recipes for meals made of bugs, so he could push the idea more positively forward. Global Belly problem, most probably - is the big obstacle.

Children do not cause problems if insects are on the menu, but grown-ups. Especially those with developed meal skills. Those people can change their minds only if they try insects and do acquire some new experience. It's more like a psychical problem. That was the conclusion after a while. After some tests.

The professor also had organized lectures and cooking classes with professional chef who helps when the professor promotes bug meals, which are grown on Dutch insect farm.

Chef, Henk van Gurp, the one who created recipes for salty pie and chocolate truffles with worms, considers that the amount of protein additives should not be covered up as info in front of the public, so he uses them as filling for a pie and chocolate.

He is trying to make his own food so the people can see what they are eating. When the leading international chefs once start preparing meals like this, the rest will follow. All of that because of the grown-ups.

Grasshopers are popular snack in Asian countries. Countries such as Thailand and Viethnam. But on the European ground, such snacks aren't popular at all.

Arnold van Huis says that Europeans should consider insects as alternative source of protein, because there is around 90 percent in them comparing with beef, where percentage varies from 40 to 70.

It turns out that we all have already saw how does it looks like when someone is eating big, nasty cockroach and enjoys pretty much while doing it. One very interesting Indiana Jones scene. And we all watched those movies, I guess...
